Daily report (2026-07-18)

1. Summary

Edit (a few minutes after posting:) current wrtitten work on this (which happened between yesterday and today) can be found here.

Today work was focused on two things; Continuing work on the MCP for the OpenBSD ABI compatibility issue, and further discussing feedback I had received on the GNU/Hurd PR.

I finished taking notes on the proposal and writing up a draft fairly early on. Then I went on to reread through the relevant source information and started writing the final MCP. This is almost done now and the only thing that remains is to present the last alternative I considered instead of the proposed target_env cfg modification that I’ve written about.

I also continued my discussions with the GNU/Hurd target maintainer and have since finished working on the last few issues. This mostly involved solving a few points in which my changes and opinion disagreed with the maintainer’s. There were barely any real changes to be made in the code. We eventually reached a point of consensus.

Other issues I’ve commented on remain unanswered.

2. Blockers

None at present.

3. Plan for the week

As mentioned yesterday, my plan is to finish the MCP and first comment on the Zulip thread about whether I should open up a new issue or otherwise post my write up in the same issue. Assuming the answer to that won’t be immediate, I will then move on to figuring out a fairly low-overhead way of updating the target_env cfg without it being a bother for tha OpenBSD target maintainer. This should hopefully mean that the section treating this in the MCP will hopefully stop being a major drawback (the maintenance burden of updating that every six to twelve months.)
